Did you know recycling is not only good for the planet but it also introduces children to science, maths and language skills? Sorting waste by material type teaches children to think analytically about what products are made of, which is a key scientific skill. Crushing cans or squashing boxes introduces concepts like size, shape and volume which are key maths skills. All the time talking about what you are doing, naming the materials the waste is made off and how it all helps the planet, introduces children to a whole range of vocabulary they wouldn’t normally hear!
